@theorytoe Yes they are, most of them are just box checkers, if you are a critical thinker, I hope you find someone that appreciates it, like offensive security. On the other hand, if you get a checkbox job, it makes for some of the most low impact work you could imagine.

@theorytoe @nemesis Yeah BRO enjoy your insecure OS weighing 200MB that will get instahacked because it doesn't use Google or Microsoft for everything I'm going to enjoy using my 100% secure unpenetrable 10GB operating system with its 10GB of apps and that has to use the internet to do anything

@meso @nemesis @theorytoe For example OpenBSD is a security oriented research OS. But when you listen to talks and interviews with the developers, they approach the subject of security with practical measures and good engineering, admitting their is no cure all for ills of computing and placing a lot of the blame on the hardware manufacturers (primarily Intel).

@theorytoe @nemesis @meso @dem I only value opinions from professionals who actually build and contribute to the stack, or at the very least people that value opinions of said industry professionals (me). Yes. I tend to lean toward the OpenBSD developers and Mr. Theo de Raadt for my opinions, but their work has proven itself over and over again. I understand they have their detractors, but most are just ignorant people. Like this gentleman did a whole presentation to try and throw shade and doubt on the OpenBSD operating system and it's security and mitigations. He ended up actually making OpenBSD look good and inadvertently promoting it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E9ga-CylWQ

@theorytoe @dem @meso @nemesis Here's a great interview with the man himself, Mr. Theo. If you watch the entire thing, you'll get a much deeper understanding of the whole operating system development, cyber-security scene. In turn it will also make you realize those that talk shit on OpenBSD are absolutely clueless about the subject.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwCZuN4qQPI

@dem @theorytoe @meso @nemesis I'm sure whonix and qubes can be effective, but the attack surface and trusting in virtualization are problems. Adding more and more complexity to systems is not always the best approach, and all it takes is a nasty Linux kernel bug to compromise everything.

@theorytoe @dem @meso @nemesis He literally took a look at this changelog https://www.openbsd.org/plus72.html and said the changes are insignificant and OpenBSD developers are not doing anything important or of value to open source.

@theorytoe @nemesis @meso @dem That's not the worst. I've heard it all, but one time a guy on reddit starting going at me because I made a pro-OpenBSD comment and he basically said OpenBSD is trash because you can't run Android Studio on it. Android Studio... I had to politely remind the fella that Android Studio is closed source, so it's up the developers and distributors of the software as to whether or not they want to release binaries for BSD systems. yeah...
