Niggers that appear in shows and movies should reflect how they are in the wild, violent, stupid, emotional, retarded monsters

@evan People shouldn't watch movies or TV, 99% of Hollywood is just a Jewish psyop to promote degeneracy and destroy the family unit. Plus racism is a normal part of the human experience, so people shouldn't be shielded from it. Maybe it's better to live in the real world and have conversations with other people, learning actual social skills; instead of flailing like a retard because someone said a no-no word and are brutish and hateful.

@curiousthinker @evan Yes for instance I was at my grandmother's home and my little cousin ended up watching the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. It ended up having some bad things in it such as the mixed race couple. Thank you friend.

@pepemilfhunter69 @evan Yeah, trying to have a logical discussion with these people is pointless. They only like yes-men and to be reaffirmed in their views. It's better to just call them a faggot kike and move on.

Well, it seems that this post has gotten the attention of some racist trolls on the outskirts of the Fediverse.I was able to clear up the worst of it by using https://rapidblock.org/ 🙏 as well as blocking domains in this post:https://troet.cafe/@baddadda/109644887742976187Sorry for anyone in this thread who may have gotten swarmed by racists. I think if you add those domains to your personal or instance blocklist, you'll get rid of the worst of it.

Also, racists and homophobes use a relatively small set of trigger words, so if you're willing to type a dozen slurs into your Mastodon filter settings 😕, you can cover a lot of bad posts in the future.

@evan The problem with efforts around lists and hashtags like these is that they are crude, deaf to nuance and context and unforgiving. In the absolute of it, once you're on the list, for whatever reason might there be, legitimate or not, deserved or not, you're an outcast. It's good as a short-term solution, but for long-term, it might wreak havoc on the fabric of the Fediverse itself, leading to excessive amounts of balkanization and stratification of the network. We need something else, and it seems to me that this shall be a network design level solution.I tagged you to discussion on the matter under this posthttps://mastodon.ml/@ZySoua/109649689079348964

@evan Qualified No because I'm not comfortable saying "never" - I might entertain that exceptions exist. But generally, if a story is worth telling, it's worth telling as is.My answer leans closer to "No" the more integral to the story. An example front and center in my mind is "American History X" - remove the racism and you remove the magnitude of the character's redemption.

@evan Another consideration might be whether it is glorifying, condemning, or providing the racism as context. And in the case of "glorifying", I'd lean toward "choosing not to stream" before censoring it.

@drq I do *not* agree lists and hashtags are inherently "crude, deaf to nuance and context and unforgiving". I use blocklists and hashtags as tools to identify problematic instances (or as supporting evidence against them), but on my instance we never defederate until mods have investigated the situation themselves.I do think blindly importing a blocklist can be problematic, but it may be necessary for new instances that don't have years to get up to speed. We've been blocking since 2018.

@skyfaller It's a good thing that you investigate every entry on a blocklist, but guess what - it takes effort. So most people don't. And it will become harder over time. And it will become easier just to add one more server to the list. So more and more people will be doing what's easier. It's just emergent collective behavior. And the problem with that is, it's self-perpetuating and self- accelerating. You see being on the list as a supporting evidence against someone. Meanwhile, it doesn't take much evidence to even turn up on the list. And you won't hear arguments for them, because you block them.Again: I see the sentiment behind the list, and totally subscribe to it. To the sentiment, not the list. Harassers have no place in the community. But I see the problems with the solution that are just too expensive to ignore.

@drq I'm not sure you've really thought through what the alternatives are. There are a limited number of possibilities for moderating:- look at content yourself- trust another human who has looked at the content- deploy automated tools- do nothingI see you're unhappy with the status quo, I agree that looking at content yourself doesn't scale, and that not looking at it yourself is a problem. But those are really the only options, anything else is an obfuscation of those basic choices.

@skyfaller The alternative might be reengineering the network, factoring the potential bad behaviour in right from the get-go.

@drq A network redesign could make the network more secure, and make it easier for people to achieve what they intend with a moderation policy. I'm optimistic about the Spritely Institute and ocaps designing a better next-gen fediverse.I do not think a network redesign can eliminate the problem that you're complaining about, which is trusting second-hand moderation decisions. You can only decentralize or centralize this decision to different degrees, not eliminate it.

@skyfaller Maybe. Maybe not. Or maybe it will just flatten the curve a little bit.But this fediblock drama is accelerating so rapidly, and reveals so many contradictions about it, that we need to stop this rift from tearing the network apart. And a bad idea can only be countered with a better idea, so we fucking need ideas, fast. So we need to brainstorm. I don't see other options. My server almost ended up on the fediblock over a couple of simple misunderstanding and a language barrier and a couple of different toxic and malicious actors that wanted it on the list because of their personal vendettas. This sucks.

@drq I disagree. I think more and better filters -- by address, by keyword, Bayesian, collaborative, semantic, commercial -- are the best way to do it.

@evan What if you overfilter? What if every other server ends up on a blocklist for every little slight? Or hell, just by association? It's not like it's not happening.

@drq - If you overfilter, you will miss things that you want to see, so don't do that.- If we all blocklist each other for minor infractions, we stop communicating, so let's not do that, either.Ultimately, this is a social problem with social solutions. We can use better filtering technologies to lighten the load, but we have to set priorities, and those will likely be personal.
