A few years ago I was introduced to the music of David Bowie because of the first Falcon Heavy (Starman) launch by SpaceX. It was one of the most awesome days in my life and at that time I was on Mastodon already posting about it ofc.. I was a huge fan of SpaceX and by extension perhaps Elon Musk (at that time) And now a few years later the dude has turned a 180 and is now a direct 'compitition' of me so to say without me doing a thing..

At some point links to mstdn where even blocked by Twitter under Elon's rule, that almost seems like an 'attack'I never did the guy any wrong and was always a 'fan' of his work but nowadays he turned so much people like me awayIn this case I am 100% certain that he is the issue and not me. I never had any hate for the guy but he created that recently with his stupid tweets and actionsI have completly lost faith and maybe trust in billionaires, it their turn to prove otherwise, im done

@stux What SpaceX do is amazing, and I, for now, am still okay with separating the art from the artist, as it were. #Musk himself is going down a somewhat dodgy rabbit hole though.

@stux losing faith in the billionaires will only serve you well going forward. I've worked in tech for 20+ years and by and large the c-suite and founder types are remarkably stupid in a wide sense even if they have very narrow expertise about a particular topic. Such wide myopia really leads these guys (almost always men) to wildly misjudge ppl and reality to great destructive effect.

@stux Several years ago, I didn't know any more about Elmo except a paragraph about Tesla, SpaceX, wants to go to Mars, very rich, lots of fans. I had a positive impression of him. Then, about a year ago, I first ran into his trolling on Twitter. My opinion of him plummeted from generally positive to pretty negative: there's no such thing as a good troll. After he bought Twitter and began systematically destroying it, my opinion of him plummeted: THIS guy is not only a troll but he's clearly a complete dimwit, and he's manifestly evil.Buh-bye, Elmo.

@stux My thoughts on that are that a Delta IV Heavy launch makes a Falcon Heavy launch look like paint-by-numbers next to a work of art.:)(Sure, you can recover booster parts of a Falcon. But the Space Shuttle recovered all its parts but a fuel tank, in 1981, and more reliably from the start. So it's not really a major innovation.)

@stux There’s a characteristic in Bowie that you will NEVER see in a billionaire and that’s the way he constantly pointed people to the art that inspired him. He was immensely creative, but he also loved art enough to share credit with the sources for his ideas, even when they were nonsense, which he also loved. Elon is the exact opposite. He’s a parasite on a thriving world of engineers. All of his most profitable work has been supported by federal subsidies. Bowie is a fitting contrast.

@maxmustermann @stux If you mean literally gay Mastodong instances, this will be limited by the percentage of the population that is actually homosexual. If you mean it in the vernacular, 75% of these new instances will be dead within a year or two. Most people do not have what it takes to keep a website hosted for more than five years, much less an app server.

You are doing a very fine job as a single person and what you have accomplished is something he can only dream of. He only knows “paniekvoetbal “ and this is why things go so very south for him. I used to follow/support a number of people on the „way up“, and each time, after a while at the very top, nearly every single person went off on a strange tangent, sooner or later. Is it, that power, corrupts?Or is it, the money?Or is meritocracy, at that level, (the top) just working out badly for every human?

@stux Similar journey: I knew a little of Tesla and Musk and SpaceX but it was Matthew Inman (Oatmeal) and Tim Urban (WaitButWhy) that got my attention as to what was significant about all 3. Until recent years, he was definitely bringing something to the EV market and Space economy that was the result of a unique personality. Watching the Model 3 reveal, Truck, Roadster, Orbcomm, Falcon Heavy, Starship tests - it really felt he was driving both companies towards a fascinating future. So many interviews and documentaries show that he did have a high level vision and deep granular understanding of the systems. It didn't *feel* like blagging, he genuinely seemed to have an idea of what needed doing and that way of throwing yourself into details that will be familiar to many people on the spectrum.I don't know how he got derailed from that approach, maybe the fanboys and the money men around him just fuelled the negative parts of his personality. It will be a shame if his meddling derails the good work of SpaceX and Tesla.
