       People forget (or don’t know) how expensive computers used to be. These are 1997 Apple prices for their professional lines.Wintel stuff at the time was mostly slower but similar price (from e.g. Dell or Compaq).

       @thomasfuchs I spent £1100 on an 486SX PC in 1990 (4MB RAM) current machine cost £400 last year - 8GB RAM

       @cymplecy yeah that sounds about right. You can even get laptops now for under $100-$200, it’s really amazing.

       @thomasfuchs @cymplecy That said I quite wonder in terms of quality, computers have been getting much cheaper but also less and less solid.Like a current generation thinkpad is basically just slightly hardened plastic.
