@theorytoe I didn't fully know about Tencent's stake in Discord. Actually, I haven't used Discord in a long time, and Matrix is buggy for me so I just found myself using XMPP.Good to see one of your new blogposts!For others:Blog Title: Moving on from 2017It's about why TheoryToE stopped using Discord so much and prefers XMPP.

@james Yeahmy experience with my current matrix homeserver has been... slow...Last time I opened fluffychat (one of my clients), it took a whole 5 minutes to fetch everything.and while discord as a service has soured in the last couple of years, the concepts behind it are something I really quite like. Ive had in the back of my mind a project to develop some sort of clone (protcol wise).

@theorytoe@pl.starnix.network I know there has also been another Discord clone called Revolt, which was also on Mastodon @revoltchat, but I haven’t really seen much progress in that (or activity on their account, I followed them since DistroToot). Honestly for this year I’ve been looking forward to XMPP.cc @theorytoe@ak.kyaruc.moe

@james Yeah I have heard of revoltchat,while I think its very cool, I have had so much trouble trying to get everything setup right. It relies a lot (imo almost too heavily) on the microservices arch. While that might make it easier to deploy on a prod environment or a kubernetes cluster, its hard to get working well on a single machine.That said xmpp is awesome and I dont see me leaving it any time soon.@theorytoe
