I wish that I understood economics better... but then I think that it would just end up depressing me to learn more about. Especially how we're screwed over.

@orekix Because learning how you are being screwed over by your own government is not a cheerful topic to learn about. Bad enough learning about the surface level stuff in some marketing techniques. Bad enough learning about how this is used in the entertainment or journalist sectors.

@ARCONITE Too busy giving the loot to the wealthy global elites where it always went. Although, sometimes, it ended up with charities or museums when they felt charitable... who are now too busy being taken over and feeling bad about the looting even if that helped to preserve artifacts so that the public and tourists can enjoy them... even for free at entry. The UK is too busy looting its own people right now, to spend on its vanity projects that deteriorate the public high streets and transport links and its geopolitical wars so elites can profit off them and take resources. They love those. Can't forget environmental projects that cost the environment more, especially with all those private jets that attend meetings while they lecture ordinary people that don't have the same level of footprint they themselves do.

@sim Just find more things to be cheerful about tbh, doomer mentality is pretty tiring, times of decay last for long so better have the fortitude to cherish and rescue what you can.

@ARCONITE It really is fucked up what happens. Our government and public sector are also riddled with foreigners that have less incentive to help preserve our heritage and culture. But then again, it has been that way for a very long time in the past too. We are an invaded and oppressed island in some ways that isn't often fully acknowledged. We didn't start off being an empire... but that is all people want to beat us over the head about.

@ARCONITE Yeah. In the past, the elites would squabble with each other over land and resources. Especially labour too. When a country was invaded during the medieval ages, it was the elites/nobility that would rebel or be put down accordingly. Sometimes the workers below them would rebel, especially over taxation from wars. But also war was the way to keep the nobles happier and to make more money from looting. Interestingly, there was also a war over labour when it comes to the nobility and the towns during the industrial era which displaced people to the factories. I don't mind having royalty, it seems better than leaving it solely to the government as many countries do now. The main problem we have is that our royalty aren't loyal to us in the way we need, they still have a mind to the empire days through the commonwealth... they are also part german which probably doesn't help. There is less reason for them to preserve our values, culture and traditions again. Especially being corrupted in the upper circles that demand global values and modernity. Then again, maybe that would always be a problem...

@orekix This is a good point... I'm not sure reading about the economy would help me be more cheerful. Need to find and focus on the good and the beauty in the world.
