@stux its not even a well designed feature becuase it shows theres so much less activity on the website than it seems like already theres like a 90% difference between views and impressions which doesnt make the views look good

Maybe #Mastodon can sometimes feel a little stiff when it comes to adding new featuers each week but this is with a very important reason!Eugen and the teams are thinking loong and deep before adding a new feature since it can have unforseen implications (Mental) health is so much more important than keeping you as long as possible on here. Social media should be a choice, not an addiction!

@stux it's having the opposite affect for me. if 16 people out of 500 followers see my tweet, what's the point in tweeting? it's better on here with 90 followers, and hashtag feeds.

@stux I have over 6K Twitter followers but get very little interaction, even from people who know me. I thought all my followers hated me(!), but now realise they’re probably just not seeing my tweets at all - I get very few views and impressions and his new ‘bug’ (as you call it) proves that. Even some high profile accounts seem to get few views (relatively speaking)

@stux Fair point. Speaking for myself, my only grievance on this – when it comes to quote toots, anyway – is that most of the responses I'd seen were of intractable refusal, whereas "we're looking into it", "we're discussing it", "we're consulting with experts", might've been better received. For what it's worth. 🤷♂️I've since seen that there are a number of threads on github where the vibe is definitely more of a discussion, but even there, there's a huge number of devs and admins who can't accept that maybe they know a little less about the psychology of UX than they do about engineering.

@stux hard agree.I’m so much more comfortable here, dipping in and out occasionally and always finding people and content that genuinely appeals, rather than seeing people locked into furiously divided debates that almost immediately descend into tribal abuse elsewhere.It’s a much more wholesome, peaceful experience and has made me seriously moderate my use of other social medias.

@stux Mastodon has great potential IMO. I've been a software designers for 30 years so, FWIW:1. Make it user-funded, even at $2/mo because w/out resources, it'll be difficult/slow to implement great design.2. End moderation and implement trust scores so we can self moderate. If two friends want to exchange barbs, that's what friends do sometimes. Moderation would interfere w/that. Two strangers exchanging barbs is something else. Trust scores would allow users to flag people w/bad intent.

@stux If someone has as much influence over a platform as to force themselves into everybody's follows, as Elon does, where they can rack up thousands of views within minutes, it turns into a measuring contest against all the regular parasocial accounts many of us follow willingly, which themselves get significantly fewer view counts. And when you factor the number of reactions per view, it becomes a depressingly low number.And that's the goal. Whip it out onto the bar and measure it.

@stux With low numbers - like mine - makes it easier to leave 😀But I feel for the people with high numbers, they are caught somehow. Maybe that is why he did it, to glue these people to the bird. Also for his own numbers, show off to feed the ever hungry ego.
