@JonathanMBR Large herbivores like elephants and hippos often have very inefficient digestive systems, meaning they don't absorb most of the nutrients they ingest. Their digestive processes make the nutrients more accessible to plants and other animals. Wild dogs probably get something our of dung that they don't get enough of from eating their whole prey.
