My blog post today is about the Tilix terminal emulator (the post was written in neovim with Tilix as the terminal). Tilix has tiles (and workspaces).https://retroedge.tech/post-2023-01-04-tilix-terminal.html#linux #terminal #100DaysToOffload

Yeah, I'll use it when I am in the Cinnamon desktop environment, but not outside it. I'll be using something different when I build out my minimalistic setup with a tiling window manager. What terminal emulators do you regularly user?

ST is at the top of my list for a "simple terminal" for a minimal setup. I haven't used it much yet, though.

@matthew Are there any benefits to Tilix beyond those of tmux?

I am not sure, as I haven't used #tmux yet... but I plan to check it out soon. Do you currently use tmux?

@matthew wow, so much wasted space around windows, double boarder frames, scrollbars etc...Personally couldn't use it and remain happiness with #terminator 😎

I have had quite a few people recommend tmux to me, both to replace screen and the terminal tiling feature. I plan on checking out #tmux soon.

@matthew Yes, I do try to use #tmux most of the time I'm in a terminal. A huge advantage is that this works within ssh. So regardless of if I open a shell from Linux, Windows, my iPad, etc. I can still use tmux. And, perhaps the largest benefit to me, is that you can attach and detach sessions, so I can start some terminal tasks from my desktop, then attach to tmux from my iPad later to check progress or do a few more things.

@matthew @toxision Hey, I recommend tmux as well, I couldn't live in the shell without it myself. If you're used to terminal tiling, check out tmux control mode. I'm not a user myself, but I know that it allows some terminal emulators that support it integrate with tmux, which might ease the transition.https://iterm2.com/documentation-tmux-integration.html

@EpicCyndaquil @matthew It's also a great tool for power users. I find it recall easy to implement some behaviors to improve my workflow. For instance my favorite (custom) shortcut combo is <leader>n to switch to a note-taking specific session, followed by <leader>o to go back to the previous session.Allows to remove any possible friction in note-taking/looking up.
