So I just found out if you buy a roomba or something similar that vacuum takes data of the dimensions of your house and sends that data back to the company. That's wild.

Lol nope they map the areas they work in and store it in a server. It may not be as nefarious as you think they'd be huge and way more expensive if all that was onboard. Or it is nefarious 🤷🏻♂️

@LTJG_Pliskin @justnormalkorean If the density of devices is high (like in a big city, or next gen wi-fi that requires a higher density by design) enough you can create a real time 3D model of the surroundings. With high enough resolution to read the relief of number plates on cars.

Lol I always wondered what kept it from completely missing spots. Or over cleaning certain areas. I just, never once assumed it mapping out your home. I really wanted one for the longest time. But considering I refuse to have an alexa or anything similar... I'll have to pass on the robo-vac.

To keep a. Accurate model of a plane with nooks crannys and objects that may or may not move and keep an accurate record of you routine would take up a lot more processing than you think. Especially if its doing multiple rooms.

@swattysquad @LTJG_Pliskin I would think it creates a point cloud and stores a simplified version of it. I doubt it's even possible for that to reach 1 GB. Which makes me think that they indeed sell the data about your house layout to 3rd parties.

@LTJG_Pliskin Older ones do just use bumpers, if you get one without bluetooth/wifi you will be golden. In general just avoid any tech with bluetooth/wifi as it is spying on you.

Yo bud there's a lot of "dumb" robot vacuums which don't need to be connected to anything out there, we have one in our living room that does a badass job and it was stupid cheap, and an expensive one upstairs for the kids rooms and hallway that really keeps the carpet clean. Less time on trivial stuff, more time on relaxing and fun together. I can dig up the info on our cheapy if you want, I love it. So easy to maintain, its a workhorse.
