Erika #PlanetaryDefenseSee the faint concentration of light toward the center of this image? That’s the elusive gegenschein, aka counterglow, a diffuse spot visible only in the darkest of skies, centered at the point directly opposite the sun. It’s caused by sunlight reflecting on interplanetary dust.

@drhafezster No kidding! That's new to me! When was this first discovered? This effect would imply the interplanetary dust acting as a retro-flector, not just a reflector. Is there an explanation known?
