Hey #ttrpg kids! Do you know the story of Eric and the Dread Gazebo? Perhaps you've seen references to it in popular gaming culture (Munchkin, KoDT, etc)? Do you know the origin?Eric was a real gamer in the 70s. He didn't know what a gazebo is, and in-game hijinks ensued. His fellow gamer Richard Aronson was there and wrote it up for paper-based fan publications, and eventually ended up on the (pre-Web!) Internet in 1989.The original is a short read:https://web.archive.org/web/20080804140516/http://www.dreadgazebo.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=8

While I'm on gamer meme culture. The "I'm attacking the darkness!" audio has had a bunch of video adaptations, but the original was audio-only and published in 1996. It's from the sketch comedy group the Dead Alewives.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Kgx2b1sIRs&ab_channel=coreydm676cw puerile gamer misogyny and homophobia, presented as an object of ridicule
