Turned on ActivityPub on the blog (wordpress) for our house (it's mostly me failing at gardening). It was super easy. I feel like with just a little bit of effort we could get nearly every blog and author publishing to the fediverse.

@paul I’m curious: What is RSS/Atom missing that ActivityPub gives you? Being able to comment? Being push-notified of updates? Being able to subscribe via Mastodon?

@rauschma pretty much all of what you just said. I do embed comments and likes etc (much like web mention), and I like the fact that people could subscribe to it in a push sense and view it in what ever client that consumes activity pub they choose to use.

@paul Makes sense. So the comments are cached locally (unless/until the commenters delete them)? That would help with Mastodon posts potentially not being archived long.

@rauschma On my paul.kinlan.me site - I've hacked it together following this: https://paul.kinlan.me/adding-activity-pub-to-your-static-site/ - although what is not in that post is that I now save Replies, Boosts and Likes and I can display them inline in the post. If someone delete's or "Undo's" then I delete it from the database.wrt to this original Toot - I believe the WP manages that, but I still need to verify all the features :D

I've been experimenting with the plugin for a few weeks on several test servers, intending to write up the results as a proper article. Here's what I've found so far - rather a mixed bag https://mat.exon.name/notablog/wordpress-activitypub/. (I just wrote it up as plain HTML because I have nowhere better to publish it right now.) I might well have missed something important, so I'd welcome any feedback or corrections.
