@manateacake There was a #Stargate movie before it was a show, it's the backstory but the show changed a LOT. Different cast (mostly), with 2 central characters who carry forward. They change the tone, and continually expand the mythology, but the core of those two characters still originates with the film.But, the show is different enough that it could possibly(?) work without having seen the movie?What does everyone else think? 🤔 @michelleplus8 @chris_spackman @tpfaff100 @tin

@5ciFiGirl @manateacake @michelleplus8 @chris_spackman @tpfaff100 I think it's helpful to have seen the movie, though it's only directly referenced in the pilot, which is a direct follow-up to the film. The character of O'Neill is totally different, but it's a good intro to his relationship with Daniel Jackson, and helps to set up the story. Apart from that, SG-1 stands alone.

@tin @5ciFiGirl @manateacake @michelleplus8 @chris_spackman Kurt Russell was the wrong guy for the part in the movie. I paid to go see it when it came out coz it sounded interesting and liked KR, but didn't like him in that role... tho't the "show" could be a whole lot better- evidently was not alone!!

@5ciFiGirl @manateacake @michelleplus8 @chris_spackman @tin I guess I paid $8 to see the movie when it came back. Didn't like it. I probably would have tho't it was ok at a (then) 99 cent movie theater.Ironically I would probably pay to see s movie installment of the series.
