Some troons opened up an Alpaca ranch in Colorado which also doubled as a refuge for lgbt ppl. In short nobody wanted to work, nobody could manage each others "trauma", they never turned a profit, and a lot of the animals died and everybody left on bad terms. Llama and Alpaca wool is expensive. 50 well cared for adult Alpaca would of generated $7500 selling their fleece whole. Processing the wool in to roving would have generated $15,000. spinning it into yarn would have generated ~$10 an ounce.

When you factor everything in, alpacas are very unprofitable in the US, unless you rent them out to petting zoos or something, and that can't sustain too many animals. If you do sell the hair for a profit, it's mostly when you do it from the angle of a charity operation because costwise, South American alpaca wool is much cheaper.I mostly got this from lurking the KF thread on the tranch. Every single time Jersh brought them up or I checked out the tranch thread it absolutely enraged me. The Tranch was always an ego project to show those transphobes who's boss or some shit. So im not surprised that a bunch of crippled, mentally ill men who can't take care of themselves and damage their own bodies had let their ranch go into such disarray. They had no reason to care for the animals or their business except up to the point that would satiate their own egos.
