@thor it's that Nordic bloodline... antifreeze in the veins... or whatever flys have in their creepy assed bodies that pass for veins...

@enduser insects don't have circulation systems like we do. i think it mostly just relies on the inherent properties that liquids have, of getting everywhere unless they are stopped. surface tension and such things. flies are pretty small so you don't need to pump liquid around for it to permeate. that's how i understand it anyway.

@enduser but i'm wondering why a fly is alive outdoors in December. that isn't supposed to happen this time of year.

@enduser without reading the article, all right, usually, when animals survive winter, their bodies go into stasis.but this fly is very much alive and buzzing around. it is not hibernating.

@enduser it's 1ºC above freezing so i guess water is liquid now. but it's pretty cold for a fly still.

@enduser i was walking outside today and i saw no trace of liquid water. the ground was 100% frozen. so i'm not sure i trust the weather report about that 1 degree...

@froozy maybe he's a really impressive fly. i didn't consider that. maybe if i put him through some breeding experiments, a super race of flies would emerge.

@thor @froozy maybe thats already been done and more and more winter flies will begin, starting in Northern Europe and spreading to the world, pestering everyone.

@Phil @froozy i sometimes suspect the world operates on more than just physicsjust as i began reading your message, the fly i've been talking about began flying and buzzing again... as if he knew i was reading about him.

@thor @froozy Thats pretty creepy. This morning a raccoon got into our barn and and attacked one of our goats. That seems very strange behavior for a raccoon. Then it went after our very large Newfoundland. By now I had retrieved a gun. It climbed on the roof of a goat play house we have and left at me. I shot it in the air. This took place an hour ago. Perhaps this is the beginning of the insect and animal uprising.
