@shaman@cryptotalks.social Would be interesting to see migration patterns for different seasons. That's a lot of ground covered, impressive.

@shaman You mean eagles exist outside of MURICA! What an outrage!

@iron_bug@shamanSadly 20 years ago the technology to track birds movement by GPS/GSM data transmitting was not avail. So the description is a little misleading. The map is about 20 single juvenile Steppe Eagles (Aquila nipalensis) tagged 2018 in Kazakstan (Dr. Katzner, Dr. Bragin). They where tracked up to 8 month. Every single line represents the track of exactly one juvenile eagle. But, yes birds can travel realy large distances: For example there are little birds migrating periodically from north America to Australia. The Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) also performs evasive migrations from the taiga to Central Europe in large flocks when food is scarce, in order to saturate itself here in the mistletoe (Viscum) deposits. The Alpine swift (Tachymarptis melba) holds the record of non-stop distance flying with a 200 day non stop flying.
