So, I bought an iPhone 11. After using it for a week, my last two Android phones feel COMICALLY large in my hand. (Holy crap, phones have become way too large.)I'm also enjoying this perfectly average, affordable 3-year-old phone more than any bleeding-edge Android device in the last 5 years.

@killyourfm I know someone who has an iPhone Max AND an iPad mini. He told mr he uses the mini because it has a large screen… :blobcatcoffee:

@killyourfm this is how i felt with my iPhone 13, even with quirks and it being locked to the app store and safari (but maybe not for much longer…) i simply cannot imagine going back to Android phonesThankfully the 14 is only bigger by a minuscule amount, gonna wait for the 15 to upgrade though as hopefully that will have USB-C

@killyourfm I'm getting crazy with iOS inconsistent gesture controls. Android 12 has done them really nice and the swipe back feature helps with the large size. With my work iPhone 13 I regularly use a second hand to press the back button altotgh the phone is so small. Imho this fully negates the advantages oft the small size. I can use my Fairphone 4 way faster although it is a brick in comparison.

@killyourfm Interesting. I'm thinking of moving to an iPhone in the Summer. I'd loved the One Plus line of Androids until recently. But each successive update has made them more Google and less independent. Features I loved vanishing and crap I don't want being imposed. Stupid things, like the One Plus used to tell me how far I'd walked. Now it just tells me how many "steps" I've taken. A totally useless measurement that is based on a health fad long since discredited.

@killyourfm can't do with lock in or supporting closed source platforms. Also the stylus in the Samsung s22u is something I can't live without. Going to try the fold series next + stylus.

@killyourfm this is norm for most Android phones. Only Samsung S series are smaller than the most.

@killyourfm I tried an iPhone 9 (I think) and was glad I could trade it in for an Android phone. 🤷

@killyourfm I'm happy to use an old, heavily customized Android of similar size to an iPhone, a tablet and a laptop. I also have a backup handset. Lugging around something halfway between the size of my phone and my tablet seems so unnecessary.I also don't like the idea of having one device do everything. That's just a single point of failure. If my everday phone was broken or stolen, it wouldn't bother me much. I might lose a few recent photos I hadn't got round to backing up, but that's all.

@killyourfm likewise I used my old oneplus 5 (from 2018) the other day, and immediately bought a new (unused) one from ebay. A delight in the hand and I am missing nothing from the soviet-battle-tank sized phone it replaced.

@killyourfm yeah, the size of phones bums me out immensely. I'm holding on to my Xperia ZX1 Compact (which is already a tiny bit larger than I'd like) hoping it never dies, since they stopped making phones of human size apparently. When you look for "small/compact phones", blog posts seem to assume 5" means "small", which demonstrates hoew clueless its authors are to what people really want. I'll never buy an iPhone, but even if I wanted to, apparently they stopped making them small too

@killyourfmHad this experience with the Pixel 5 too, just felt right, huge phones are so ridiculous. If anyone here in the comments wants the best of both worlds, the Asus ZenFone 9 is small *and* flagship. Alternative & cheaper is the Pixel 7 but imho it's borderline on small-medium.

@TerryBernstein Sometimes it's the little things...I appreciate that the iOS health app puts more emphasis on the 3 pillars of exercise time, calories burned, and # of hours spent standing. You can still get your step count if you dig into the stats, but it shows you total distance walked which certainly makes it feel like more of an accomplishment.

@killyourfm Yes. Android's step counter tell us nothing of value. The x thousand steps thing was debunked long ago because it's only raised heart rate, i e. brisk walking, that is of significantly benefit.

@killyourfmSame feelings on pixel 5 (calyx). And I bet it was more affordable 😉.It will feel cool for a few weeks, until you need something you were used to do easily... Thank God KDE-Connect is now on iOS 🤣

@killyourfmI miss the smaller phones. I may be a bit old school but I mainly use my phone as a tool. I don't game or watch many videos on it so I don't really need a huge screen. I loved the size of the Pixel 5 and Essential phone. Currently have a Pixel 6 Pro and it has always felt huge. If I were to switch out today I would probably grab a Zenphone 9.Bring back small phones and headphone jacks!

@killyourfm I recently switched to an iPhone 12 mini and I completely agree. Phones are getting too big.
