Redlist me on Sunblock/Sunscreen and what alternatives are for the chemical ones.Remember I'm Soyence man so I'll read papers and stuff, also options you've successfully used only. I've seen "just use coconut oil bro, just eat some vitamin E bro" but I'm not totally sold (I've been under the Sun without anything and got burned)

@MechaSilvio I've never used coconut oil but the "suntan for 40 minutes per day in early summer to develop a base coat and avoid burning" works for me although I have a shitload of freckles and melanoma runs in the fam 😀

@KarlDahl I don't overdo it and can build up too, but some situations require a bit more. I found there are some Zinc based (non-nano particles) that seem to be a good compromise (zinc oxide is also what some of the people wary of Pharma use in their homemade stuff)

@MechaSilvio Have you tried a non-supplemental approach via "building your solar callus" at sunrise and sunset with as much skin exposure as you can? There's a totally different spectrum there than noon or afternoon light, even if your latitude is currently winter.

@MechaSilvio @KarlDahl If you don't mind risking getting arrested/hassled for blackface you can use charcoal. That's what people used in the old days before sunscreen and zinc paste became a thing.

@MechaSilvio There may be issues, but YMMV.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/10/211014100220.htmWhen's the last time you totaled up what your Vit A intake looks like?

@MechaSilvio It may not be the carotenoids you're looking for.Astaxanthin + Early Morning/Pre-Sunset skin exposure is a common methodology used in the biohacking space to build solar callus, eliminate need for sunscreen.Early morning light is devoid of UV, but has balanced red and blue ranges. You'll get the IR-A charge to better support exposure to UV-A, UV-B.Red Light Therapy/IR Exposure is, albeit a more costly, a work-around here also.

@Rwoeidk @MechaSilvio A few notes on IR/Red-Light therapy devices. >Avoid Joov.>DIY is cheapest, and you'll learn alot.>The most reccomended Western-nation based brand is EMR-TEK, however, it can be pricey.>You can get potential clones of EMR-TEK on alibaba, but that comes with all the potential risks therein.>Early Morning and Sunset full-body skin exposure isn't replaced by IR/Red-light therapy devices.
