@book @franz Most people homerule it a ton. 5e is so successful for the same reason that it's so terrible, it's good at nothing and meant for nothing, so people just project whatever they want onto it. 90% of 5e dm's don't even track hp they just let the monster die when it seems cool.

@book @franz They're organised randomly with big sections of prose instead of organised in such a way that it's easy to access them in the middle of the game. Because of this you can't use them at the table and have to read the entire book, and then make notes and maps of everything in the book to use while playing. With old modules you could just read through the book once quickly then use it as a reference at the table.

@book @franz That's only an issue with new school narrative post-Dragonlance modules. Old school modules were usually isolated dungeons/towns that could be easily inserted into a campaign without too much effort.
