You know why people suddenly give a shit about COVID who seemingly didn't care about pandemics before?Because they finally saw long COVID happening to them or their loved ones. Disability came home to them.It feels so cynical to me though. The flu can cause CFS and lung damage. Even a bad cold can do it. Mononucleosis badly affects the immune system and some people suffer from lingering effects for the rest of their lives.Did those people truly give a shit about that, though? Or did they dismiss this as "rare" (they aren't)?I'm sorry but as an asthmatic who can be taken out by the flu, I have a high degree of cynicism about this entire thing.

Like COVID isn't the only fucking problem. The flu. RSV. Bad colds. Countless other diseases in this world, and they chose COVID to fixate on, because at last, it affected the abled-bodied too. They didn't give a shit about the disabled before, until they became disabled or saw people who did.

When COVID inevitably becomes a background event (What, do you think this pandemic is eternal?), we will see people no longer giving a shit about masks, what happens to the disabled, etc. We will go back to being disposable.

This is already happening, but it will happen inevitably with most people at some point.
