@stux I'm pretty sure that they're operating exactly as they intend to. Not worth the hassle, suspended is the right place for 'em.

@lamp @stux Because that is how the fediverse works. Think of it like a blog... You don't whitelist and only allow sites your trust. You allow the entire internet. Someone runs and instance full of pricks and the admin won't take action- you simply banhammer that entire instance for all of your users.

@motorola68k They were "limited" while other "free-speech" instances were suspended, @stux must've chosen to allow them for some reason.Wait, I just checked the description for limited... so this means nobody on mstdn.social would have seen that transphobic message (unless they followed them), so what does this matter? @m0th @lamp @stux naw they're far too many sites to white list... Little instances like mine with just a handful of users would never actually end up able to communicate with others... Basically breaking the entire fediverse. If large instances only white list and allow other large instances you just end up with Twitter 2.0

@motorola68k @lamp @stux Discovery and adding instances to the whitelist could be part of the normal functionality, complete with notification on new host discovery, so I disagree.Additionally this change would solve drive-by and disposable instance attacks categorically, making fedi a much more normie friendly place; I don't think you're going to see at-home hosting explode without such a change.

@stux good choice. I don’t want to see shitposts on my feed! Technically speaking what does this mean exactly? If I followed anyone from a banned instance, will I continue to see their toots? And if someone from that instance was following me, will they continue seeing my toots?
