I was parked along the curb, car in “drive”, foot on the brake, in the middle of nowhere when the security guard shouted at me to “move it!”, much in the same way that our Maltese barks at the UPS guy. It’s not technically parking if the vehicle is moving, so the security guard and I commenced a fun game of “What Do You Mean, I’m Driving!” at about 3 inches per second.

@tek I'm curious here: why does the middle of nowhere have a security guard? 🤔

@tek lol, I had a similar argument awaiting my spouse outside of the grocery store last summer, but mine was a police officer. "you cant park here" he said. I said, I'm not parked - technically this is "standing", and it's also a loading zone and I'm about to start loading. "He said move along or I'll cite you." At that point I decided that the hassle of time in court outweighed proving my point to Little Napoleon.

@tek As long as you're sure your security guard isn't an off-duty cop, the secret is to tell 'em to write their incident report. As a practical matter, it's all they can do. And *nobody* will do a thing with that incident report.

@mwehle It was distant in terms of parking lot density. I was waaaayyyy away from the front entrance, along a side literally hundreds of feet away from anyone else. He was being overprotective of an empty fiefdom.

@tek I was downtown in Los Angeles about 20 years ago. I had gone to see a show with a friend and he had gone to get his car and we’d agreed that I would drive out of the lot and wait for him on the side of the road. I pulled over and suddenly a cop car pulls up beside me and asks what I am doing. It’s only then that I realized I had been driving on the wrong side of the road. I looked at the first cop and just said “I am Australian”. He looked at his partner, laughed, and drove off.
