I mean, when you see a mix of rain, snow, hail and sleet flying almost horizontally past your window because of the wind... You start questioning your life choices.As in: "Do I really need this thing right now? Because that means getting out of the house and actually crossing the street...".

Walking back home, it felt as if somebody was gently and firmly pushing me uphill. That was nice.Because the wind direction would flip every two minutes and getting the wind in my face was less than pleasant.

@ParadeGrotesqueHmm… the only time I really questioned my choice to head outside was the day the Beast from the East hit which involved what I can only describe as the hairiest drive home of my life (even though I was in a vehicle fitted with winter tyres) in full blizzard conditions, I heard that a few hours later the local Mountain Rescue team was sent to check on the driver of a snowplough after his vehicle got stuck on the route I travelled.

There is also an issue with the electricity in the house, with the fridge and lies of kitchen appliances flickering on and off.Seems like the higher amp circuit is faulty. Wifi is still on, so I can still post on Mastodon, obviously.

@iuculano I am not a New Yorker, I am a European vacationing in NYC for Christmas.Even those temperatures are not enough to scare me: it's the fact we are having power shortages, which brought down the boiler in the house I am staying in.Not a nice combination of events.

Electricity has been fixed in the house! The heat and light are back on. Already feeling better.Mad respect to the NYC Con Edison people who are working, in the cold, on Christmas Eve to fix power problems like ours.Me and she of the 15 years of age and curly hair were able to go and get some food for everyone. Life is good.

@ParadeGrotesque Our power went out yesterday (at our all electric house), but they rolled trucks and had the power back on in under an hour. Very thankful for those working out in the elements to keep the rest of us safe and warm.

@publius @ParadeGrotesque I didn't get too outraged. I don't usually come back to town for lunch, but it was cold and we had leftover chili in the fridge. The outage gave me an excuse to hit my favorite BBQ joint for my favorite sandwich; turkey, jalapeno and monterey jack cheese sausage on Bavarian with plenty of mustard. By the time I got back from lunch they were in the process of restoring the power.
