@hayden Back in the say, I had a separate case for my SCSI peripherals! I had 3 hard drives, plus CD-ROM, CD-RW and tape drive.A total of 6 devices on a long internal ribbon cable + external SCSI cable going to the back of my Amiga 4000.#amiga #scsi #retrocomputing

Ok, I hooked up the new RX 7900 XT and......it didn't work out of the box on #ArchLinux :crywink:I mean, the desktop renders, but it's using llvmpipe (software) compositing. Happens with both #Wayland and X11, both #KDE and #Sway.Why? I couldn't figure from dmesg nor the journal...

Ok, I booted a #Fedora #Rawhide live image, which has a pre-release kernel 6.2, and amdgpu acceleration works just fine out of the box.Take that, #ArchLinux! :fedora:

@codewiz@mstdn.io I don't think what you need is a newer kernel. You already have display output, and it's just that you are missing the OpenGL / Vulkan driver. You probably just need to build mesa-git.

@codewiz @PeterCxy because that might kill your system. It's better if the user is in control and that there are safe defaults. It's btw the default for meson and meson crashes constantly my machine of i forget to mount my 20GB swapfile before building certain things. I hate it.

@penguin42 The dmesg output for amdgpu looks all fine... I saw a couple of errors from the drm ring buffer, but I think I've seen them previously and they're harmless.I'm not trying mesa-git, but @PeterCxy made me realize that I actually need to build mesa (either version) against llvm-15.

@codewiz @1lyaP It’s not a good design. None of the new cards are. I wouldn’t run any of them in a case not the Fractal Design Torrent with bottom mounted fans blowing directly into the GPU. The power consumption alone for 40 series and 7000 series cards alone is a non-starter if you live in a warm climate.
