@stux Whilst I was away, I turned to Redit for help, my knowledge of Mastodon is still very limited. Someone mentioned that it's best to move to any other server that doesn't include the word social as many instances are blocking these servers because of their members 🤯 I never really got an answer of what exactly that meant. Are you aware of any such actions Stux? My personal experience is that our members are a friendly, and last night proved very supportive bunch. Especially at mstdn.social

@stux I wouldn’t even take pay from Google for my fonts. I had them donate it to the FSF.(I have reasons besides not wanting the money, though. It would have been a bureaucratic nightmare for me. I’d have had to report it to the Social Security Administration, etc., possibly [even if unlikely] have my benefits reduced ... and, the main thing, therefore my OCD symptoms would have skyrocketed.)

@stux @skquinn what if you did sell 49%, and use the money for philanthropy. With the promise and controlling factor you remain sole proprietorship. Then chase revenue streams from on boarding / hosting of corporate accounts. Which can be unblocked by any of your end choosers at their will. There are certainly some media outlets I miss on here. But not everyone would for example TalkSport. Yes I know they are owned by ComCast, but I like the presenters.

There may be a none profit out there which would be interested. I am not sure if I should delete content frequently to ease up on load for you, or (because I saw that it takes up server resources) do it in bulk less frequently? @stux I'm curious what the threat level is in ownership consolidation for smaller instances.. I know that server/instance blocking is a thing, but is server whitelisting possible? My fear being that large and popular instances get bought up and whitelist their own traffic and refuse all others.

@stux that’s great! However, the beauty of decentralisation is that even if you change your mind and sell up your users can vote with their feet.I just don’t get how corps can monetise an instance enough to recoup their costs when their whole username can jump ship at any time.
