People joke that Sony games are "generic third person open world collectathons", but you can't deny their games are visually stunning and are filled with content. I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima and it's so damn gorgeous & fun to play. Even Horizon Zero Dawn & the Uncharted series are a feast for the eyes, with HZD having copious content. Only reason I don't play the PS4's other console exclusives like Days Gone or the second Horizon is because the latter is pretentious and has Nikocado Avocado starring as Aloy, & the former is a game about zombies, a genre I'm not too fond of. :awoo_sus2: The Switch on the other hand is so underpowered that it can't even run Skyrim without looking worse than its XBOX 360 version. It can't run something on the scale or visuals as the aforementioned games, or Bloodborne, or any other Sony exclusive, and don't get me started on comparing it to the Steam Deck... :awoo_sip2:

@rlier23 what on Switch comes close to Ghost of Tsushima, balanced in looks and gameplay, for example? :zt_shrug: The Switch can handle...anime games, (which every console can), and yet even Xenoblade 3 looked less impressive than 2 and that's the only series that bothered pushing the Switch to the limits. It's like they're cutting corners even more.

@weanoob but any system & PC can run anime games :zt_shrug: they're practically the least strenuous type of game out there.Yet Nintendo can't even make a Pokemon game look and run well, and something like Fire Emblem Three Houses cut so many corners, like using STILL IMAGES stretched & bent for support cutscenes, and it generally was not a visually good looking game. I liked it for its characters & political storytelling, but its gameplay & graphics I would say felt & looked worse than the 3DS Fire Emblem games! :gura_what:

Few things on Switch are of the scale of Tsushima or even Horizon in its world, the amount of enemies on screen, or just the sandbox exploration game genre in general. If Sony didn't shoot itself in the foot with all their censorship and shutting down Jap studios, they'd be dominating.Nintendo can't even secure 30 fps in most of their games, and can't make a good looking - or running - Pokemon or Fire Emblem game anymore. Something like visuals and how something runs often go hand in hand.

@RehnSturm256 @weanoob Speaking as someone who has been playing FE Fates recently, I can confirm that the visuals in Three Houses are utter ass in comparison. The stretched textures, aliasing artifacts, and Scarlet/Violet-tier frame drops during even the TIMING BASED FISHING MINIGAME of all things made that game such an eyesore that even a graphics-ignorer like me couldn't excuse it. Not even my favorite character being on screen made me like actually *looking* at the game because the devs did such a bad job at handling the visuals. She deserved better :aqua_cry:

@icenthe @RehnSturm256 @weanoob 100%. All the dialogue scenes in the game taking place in a badly stretched screenshot was a constant distraction, plus tons of other models and textures. I remember once being totally entranced by a large detail on dedues armor having >10 pixels. Stuff like that is just constant. I’ve never been a guy who cares too much about graphics but three houses was graphically bad enough where it’s one of the few games where the graphics really made me think less of the game. The 3DS games looked so much better in comparison.

Bayonetta 3 can’t maintain 30 fps, and chugs harder DURING MENUS. :kekw: They found workarounds for the first Bayo port but now they’re getting lazier. The system is practically two generations behind on power, has less features as a console than the Wii U, and the games aren’t incredible enough to forgive at this point. The disparity is too noticeable now.If you want platformers & strategy games, then the Switch is fine, but if you want open world, fps, proper action & fighting games, then anything else supersedes it.

Torna might compare favorably to it, but that was a much smaller and less ambitious project. I don't particularly care about the open world genre myself, so I've only played the obvious ones (BotW, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Pokemon Legends Arceus etc), but if you have a gaming PC you have zero excuse to ever waste any time on Soyny. Hell, even if you don't, no straight white male with any self-respect has any business wasting time on Soyny shit, period.And Nintendo today is still only about as bad as PS3-era Sony in terms of the things you selectively pretend to care about, I've yet to see any openly anti-White, anti-male first party game like Horizon (let alone The Last of Us 2) from them, their biggest sins are instances of PS4-style censorship and occasional "representation" of faggots and other weirdos, not actual "Fuck White Christian males" Message games.

@neo @alyx @galena @RehnSturm256 @weanoob depends on what you classify as "high power." the nes, snes, and n64 were all relatively high power for their time. gamecube was more powerful than the ps2 was. for what it's worth, the wii u was also the most powerful console for a small amount of time but that's mainly because it came in between two generations.i guess the limiting factor with the gamecube and n64 were just the storage space for games.but yeah, it's quite staggering to see the difference between a game developed by nintendo themselves VS a game made by a third party, even if it is a switch exclusive. why the fuck does bayonetta 3 look worse than 2 does? how do the pokemon games just keep getting worse? then you look at splatoon 3, smash ultimate, animal crossing, metroid dread, or breath of the wild (which was a LAUNCH TITLE) and it just doesn't make sense. the only explanation is that the third party devs are just getting lazy and don't want to optimize for the switch anymore. it's clear that developers just want nintendo to make a more powerful iteration of the switch, because it is a handheld console that came out in 2017.

The standout Wii U games for me were Smash 4 (there was a 3DS version, but it was overall inferior), Xenoblade X and Mario 3D World, which pales in comparison to my top 5 for the Wii (which also included Smash Bros. Brawl). Among all that shovelware, the Wii boasted some real gems.

@RehnSturm256 I won't lie, Garreg Mach had potential. I love base building, but 3H renders it mostly useless outside of support conversations after the time skip. There's no real building or cultivation, either, and it felt weird to come back to the monastery. You'd think you would go to the different faction's main bases of operations, no? The game felt rushed and I knew it, because once you hit phase 2 of a campaign, you just feel nothing but "Ugh, onto the next chapter to hurry up and finish the game..."It wasn't like that in previous games.
