they really gave the UI for MuseScore (an open-source app for making sheet music) a solid bump in version 4 of the app.

oh wow, this handles articulations impressively well. those are usually a pain to do with VSTs, but these instruments are designed to actually interpret the sheet music, so it's actually much easier to control.

@thor sadly drum rolls still sound stupid, but yes it looks quite beautiful in the new version

@Magenta i'm not very experienced with notation, so there are still things i'm trying to figure out, like how i'd notate that a violin section should glide quickly through notes without necessarily accenting them

@Magenta i'm wondering if that's something you can even notate because a violinist would *have* to play a run of 1/16 notes with a faster attack so they'd just know to do that

@Magenta oh, it's something synth players talk about, how fast a note begins, sustains itself and ends:

@thor >MuseScore (an open-source app for making sheet music)https://raw.githubusercontent.com/musescore/MuseScore/master/LICENSE.GPL>This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 3 as published by the Free Software Foundation.>All fonts included in Musescore are made available under the GNU Freefont License, and those fonts are covered by the following special exception:???It appears that they demand that you surrender your copyrights if you want to make a commit to their version, so they can release a proprietary version and sell exceptions to make such proprietary versions of musecore as well.As the GPLv3 is irrevocable as long as you don't violate the license, musescore should be fine to use, but how there's a proprietary version does smell a bit like "open source" to me.
