@stux I bought a new Dell laptop with Windows 11. Once I got to a functional desktop it was using ~70% of the available memory at idle. Installed Linux. Now uses ~5%.

@stux Windows 11 was my official stepping-off point. I’m 100% Linux.Start menu as advertising media, yeah no thanks.Can’t say it was painless. Gaming, music/audio production, advanced stacking and photo manipulation. All are tougher, but can still be done.I really hate that every avenue in tech these days feels like a Faustian Contract.

@stux I would switch to only using Linux if I could, but I keep a Windows machine around because of ~2 programs that don't support Linux and some audio hardware drivers. It's annoying =(I tried removing some of the bloatware a few months ago and it's kind of insane how difficult they make it.

@stux I’m so thankful my work and personal laptops are all MBP’s. All my peers with Dell’s or Surfaces are having to swap them out every 2 years due hardware/software failures. But my last MBP has lasted 7 years before needing to be replaced. I got 4 plus years out of my work MBP. For me, MacOS and Linux are the only ways to go. Windows and Android devices seem to suck up resources over time, which make them almost unusable after 2-3 years. (Not an ideal investment)

@stuxWindows is awful. For Android, use Pixel. No bloat. Apple has plenty of its own issues. Like default system apps tied to the OS.
