For no apparent reason, I made this alternative #Mastodon logo. I think it was created out of my burning conviction that logos should all be visual puns, and the more puns the better. So here it is, the head is a speech bubble AND the body is an "M". Puneriffic!#design #logo #fediverse

@john Unlike most people who make logo suggestions you seem to have some idea how to create one that works across different media, sizes, b/w, etc.I still feel impelled to say that the existing logo is the same visual pun you made, just in a different form.

@thor Meh, I think I have a pretty good handle on how much work it takes to create a competent logo, and it's a lot less than the technical work behind open source software.I think the reason a lot of it is ugly is because developers don't care or have bad taste.

@john @thor There are many very obvious reasons, such as.• not having a designer from the start making changes difficult down the road.• mostly being a group of volunteers, it doesn't makes sense to make things looks beautiful if they're working.• using defaults of their gui toolkit for *minimalism*.There's likely more but I can't think of them at the moment.
