Ok, I... have to say this again, because the last post with this information is buried deep in the archives... but:Hi! Welcome to the Fediverse (or, welcome to finding my part of it.)Do we know each other? Say hi. I LIKELY recognize you, and then it's "oh hey" and then mutual follows. So, if we HAVEN'T met:Hi! I'm Truck. I like people. However, I have limits on how many people I can actually talk to, and I passed that limit about ... 30 years ago, and I keep making new friends. So. If you wanna talk, cool... just... tell me who you ARE first, so I can say "oh! hey! it's that guy."So: Ask when you wanna follow, ok? And tell me what interests you, and why you wanna chat. However: Fascists can FUCK RIGHT THE HELL OFF.Also, if you don't like "black" folks, and think "indians should go back to India" or "why the fuck should I care if the US is dumping gasoline in the Hawaiian water supply, I'm not in Hawaii" - you best just not get me (and _us_) fucking started.

(Also: "Guy" and "Dude" are genderless in my vernacular. If not in yours, ok, cool, I'll try to remember, just, remember that mine, it is genderless. So if I use those terms, it's absolutely NOT trying to mess with you. At all.Yes, I know women who call each other dude. It's a thing that people from the US around my age just... we could have complete conversations with just the word "Dude" based on inflection. There was even a commercial once that did that. I never can find the darned thing. One day I will again...Anyway: I live in Finland, we have a delightful way of handling genders with pronouns...WE DON'T HAVE ANY GENDERED PRONOUNSAnd, well, that's how 'dude' and 'guy' are to me, also. Just like the Finnish 'hän.')

@Truck Grew up in California – "dude" is very much considered gender-neutral there. Especially compared to other places. It's interesting how regional differences can create a kind of divergent evolution with regard to usage and context.

@Gemma It was a BIT more gender-neutral there than it was in my area of the midwest (where I lived at the time when that ad was making the rounds) but... not THAT much. It's also fascinating how easily people can -handle- a genderless term.(and how so many folks just go absolutely nuts over it - both "we need to add MORE genders" and "NO THERE ARE ONLY TWO!" - followed by denial, from both of those camps, that genderless can ever work.)
