       Also found myself in the source of the Busybox ifupdown implementation today. I have got to say there are choices we make in life and this right here: https://elixir.bootlin.com/busybox/1.26.0/source/networking/ifupdown.c#L1383 ... that was a choice somebody made.

       @gnomon @Rob_Russell You probably don't want to look up how your shell finds out it's a login shell instead of a subshell. It's very V7 Unix, to put it one way.(It probably predates V7, I haven't looked.)
