Hello folks, November was a hectic month with a lot of configuration changes and community growth.While awaiting a second cabinet for our new systems we temporarily leased a DC server on Nov 11th specifically for the database. It went into production on the 12th.Unfortunately, it appears its RAID is failing which explains our issue. As of this morning we have moved off of that machine completely.Thank you for remaining positive and optimistic with us as we get ahead of this setback.

@SDF i definitely support you all and am trying to stay positive. communication helps and i appreciate it. is there any possibility of saving accounts that were created (and migrated to) w home on that server?i wanted to support SDF more and had moved my account there and it’s currently gone.

@SDF Could you please let us know whether we should expect to get our accounts back up to date (follow(er)s/posts etc.) or whether we should start rebuilding our accounts manually? I'm sure lots of people currently are missing two weeks of activity (like me) and don't know whether they should be doing something or just waiting for the data to be restored.Thanks!

@SDF Hi. I had been having a problem with logging in to my account since yesterday. It seems the server is down. So, now I created a new account using the same user name and password. Can I still retrieve my old account back? Can you update me on what happened? It seemed kind of strange since I used the correct user name and password several times yesterday.

@SDF On Nov 21, I created an account named @Dracula_on_a_bike on this server. The last time I was able to use it was approx. Dec 7, and later it seems to have been completely lost; I can't log in, and the https://mastodon.sdf.org/@Dracula_on_a_bike URL gives a 404 error.Is there any chance that it could be restored from a backup? (I'm reluctant to re-create it under its old name, in case that's possible.)(P.S.: thanks for all the work you do as a non-profit Unix-shell-account/email/etc. provider.)

I have no idea who I've lost for followers and follows and it took a while to create lists. But even still, I can't favorite posts & my explore link is for posts from Nov 20. @SDF can you please tell us what was possibly lost on this failed raid set up? My account was clearly on these disks, and I lost pretty much everything it seems. If I did permanently, I would like to know. First time I ever enjoyed social media! I was just about to give a donation, too. I was psyched to do that. So just be transparent. Silence doesn't look good. I would appreciate a "we don't know if we lost anything." Any direct answer would reassure us that you are listening . Thank you.

@SDF found the reason. Totally understandable. Huge job to fix. I have seen equipment that complex, don’t envy the task. Appreciate you being open and transparent about the problem and keeping the lines of communication open. Wish CenturyLink would be that open when it’s network was down. I can dream. Far better than the bird site even with equipment failures as it’s a much nicer community.
