I switch computers a lot. However, for the last 4 months or so, my daily driver laptop has been a corebootbook, an Acer C740 laptop formerly known as a Chromebook.Specs-wise, it is a terrible laptop, but it has served me quite well for the last couple months. Devuan Linux. Dual core Celeron 3205U cpu at 1.5Ghz. 4GB memory (soldered on board, can't be upgraded). I did upgrade the 42mm m.2 SSD to a 32GB one instead of the 16GB it came with. I usually use ThinkPad laptops, but I've been mostly satisfied with this. The heavy lifting tasks are done on my ThinkStation S30 or other desktop/server machines. #corebootbook #chromebook #Linux #Devuan #Acer #ThinkPad #DailyDriver #WhatAreYouRunning

It's a bit of a pain, but I have done enough of them now that it isn't too difficult. I found a few blog posts with good guides. Only certain models of Chromebooks can be "corebooted", freed from Google's ChromeOS.If you check out the posts with the tag #corebootbook you'll find a lot of my notes and observations. I think I link to a few resources and guides, too.

@Big_Diggity There's honestly just less messing around to get a working system with Mint and you can still customize it if desired. I use I3 a lot and enjoy Cool Retro Term. This box is connected to the living room TV and we all use it for everything. Most visitors think it's weird, but it works for us!

@Big_Diggity Mine's a Dell XPS M1330, running #LinuxMint.Other specs unknown, as it was being thrown out by a FOAF who couldn't run Excel on it anymore 😂(It does still have the "Windows Vista" sticker on the wrist rest)

@Big_Diggity @matthew I'm actually running an old Asus Chromebox right now with #LinuxMint. It runs like a champ, and it was much easier to switch to coreboot than I suspected. Bonus on these boxes is that they're easy to open and ram and SSD are easy to replace.I'm looking at buying a used one with a more recent processor in it.

@matthew My c720 lasted longer than it had any business lasting. For $200 laptop it is easily the best dollar for dollar tech purchase I've ever made.

@Big_Diggity My main computer is assembled by me. It is a Commodore 64 Impostor with an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G and 32 GiB of RAM running @opensuse Tumbleweed. I built a companion device for it with additional storage, USB, memory card readers and SATA. This is my favorite, EVER, computer setup I have EVER had... EVER. #openSUSE

@Big_Diggity That's a laptop, not a PC. I'm running PopOS on a ThinkPad and QubesOS on the desktop.

@Big_Diggity Daily Driver? Currently my trusty #Thinkpad X220 w/i5, 8GB RAM, and fresh 128GB SSD running Linux Mint. This is where I spend most of my time, mainly in #orgmode and the browser (FF, Chromium, WebApps, Nyxt).

@Big_Diggity I'm running Ubuntu on a 2020 #ThinkPad T14. I actually don't particularly like Ubuntu, I used to run Arch and it was nice.I also don't like #Lenovo, because of #China. I regret picking this laptop. But nonetheless it is a nice computer, solid and works great, except for the MicroSD slot which stopped working :(But based on 2 accidents so far I have seen that it is indeed durable :D

@Big_Diggity Quad core, 8 threads total. Base clock speed 1.8GHz, clock boost up to 4.9GHz :).The system supports PCI passthrough, which is neat (it is a business-ish laptop, right?). Supports dual-channel RAM (though I only have 1 card installed, 16GB soldered, so no dual-channel for now). Thunderbolt supported. Has USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, audio out, like computers should have IMO.I could go on with some more properties, but I need to stop overdoing things :)
