Why is #Mastodon the go to Fediverse app? In Mastodon, you can only STAR a post.In #Misskey, you can react with 1 of 100s of your favorite icons

@Big_Diggity I think network effect is one of the biggest answers (though likely not the only one). It's especially true right now. The vast majority of growth are individual accounts, not admins spinning up new servers. Which means, they will land where they hear about. That's network effect.Once accustomed to certain features and interface (never underestimate UX), the slim minority that would run an instance will want to drive the same car they were riding in before.

@keelan @Big_Diggity I agree, Keelan. Network effect has a major impact. I really like the reaction feature, hopefully Mastodon will implement that too. It’s open source so anyone could open a GitHub issue and request the feature

@keelan @Big_Diggity oh, looks like it’s been requested for some time:https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/4106#issuecomment-416777403Gargron isn’t in favor, though the issue is still open so maybe waiting for more votes.

@michael @Big_Diggity Ah, well, here's hoping it eventually gets through. The thing I like the most about Mastodon is the advanced interface. It's killer combined with the lists and the ability to pin a hashtag.I'm no developer. Far from it, actually. But I hear Mastodon is a really heavy thing to run. I've ran my own little Pleroma instance before and that thing sips compared to Mastodon's guzzle.

@keelanI am installing several different projects on my server and will tinker with them. I've been wanting to learn them all because they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm going to learn them and document comparisons of them from the user's experience. As if I don't have anything what to do. Ha ha 🙄Maybe I'll be able to contribute to https://fediverse.info/ Features section. @michael

@Big_Diggity @michael I'd be keen on seeing this. There's still a lowgrade piece of me that would consider running some instance of something with Yunohost on old Raspberry Pi I've got laying around.
