@jeffcliff @mgeist Age verification for certain online platforms is honestly something I am in support of, mainly extremist safe havens (though I believe they should be allowed to exist) and porn sites. Sadly it seems more like an opportunity to collect more data on citizens, and almost definitely restrict speech.

@jeffcliff @mgeist In a perfect world, the restrictions would only apply for in-state IPs, and there would be a sort of "ticket" system where you are given a username/password that isn't tied to the credentials you used to acquire it. Of course, I don't support this bill because I can't see any government going to such lengths to preserve online anonymity.

@Leaflord @mgeist He's probably the most informed person on technology/internet/privacy law in canada. He's the reason I joined facebook (to fight against the Canada DMCA) back in the paul martin days. basically anything that the federal government does that's terrible concerning technology/privacy he's there first and foremost analyzing it. Agree/disagree with him on particulars - - he is basically a one man opposition party to Trudeau, from the bleachers, and when Poiliviere or Bernier takes power he'll be the sober opposition to their tech policy BS too.
