       @forteller @pzmyers I've always treated "effective altruism" as a scam. I see no evidence that it has ever had even a tiny bit to do with "helping the worst-off people in the world". It's been smoke and mirrors from the very beginning.

       @publius @pzmyers Have you ever looked into what Against Malaria Foundation, GiveDirectly, Helen Keller International, Malaria Consortium, Sightsavers, Evidence Action, Schistosomiasis Control Initiative, and so many more does with the millions of dollars they receive every year from the donations from effective altruists, of which almost 0 is anything close to millionaires?

       @forteller @pzmyers It's remakable how rapidly Silicon Valley Benthamism spawned gurus telling you to go to work for the military-industrial complex ― all those people will be dead in a century anyway! ― and spend your income buying indulgences so that the AI God of the far future doesn't decide to torture a simulacrum of you for eternity.It's almost as though there was never any real altruism at all. Strange for something associated with Peter Thiel and Curtis Yarvin!
