What do you call these? A local butcher (Farmisons) has declared it #NationalPigsInBlanketsDay but we reckon you non-English followers may have some delightfully wacky alternative nomenclature for these festive finger foods.

@Raspberry_Pi Well they don't do them with mini-sausages, but in Los Angeles bacon wrapped hotdogs are often called "street dogs" or "street hotdogs" as they're often sold by street vendors (I usually encounter them after seeing a concert at the Hollywood Bowl) served with grilled onions and peppers. In my experience pigs in a blanket are breakfast sausages wrapped in pancakes.

@Raspberry_Pi @axwax I would say that a CW is appropriate for something that’d make one unhappy if one were to see it suddenly without expecting it, given that one might have been happy beforehandI tend to immediately back out of the burger adverts on YouTube rather than sit through the excruciating 4s to skip them, but if I saw a picture of cooked meat on here, I probably wouldn’t think it that jarringMainly I’m trying to train YouTube to not show what I don’t likeIt doesn’t work, though, every time there’s a car advert I immediately switch YouTube off and shout at the telly “stop showing me cars – I absolutely hate cars and their drivers” – I’d be comfortable with a CW for depictions of cars, but that’s just meCars kill people slowly and sometimes quicklyHow far do I go, though? A CW for depictions of right-handed things that stress the unthinking and normalised right-handed dominance of this world? (Actually, not a bad idea)

@u0421793 @Raspberry_Pi You're spot on about seeing something suddenly without expecting it.If a butcher posts pictures of raw carved up carcasses it is to be expected and if I don't like it I don't have to follow them.If someone likes posting about their dinner I can also fully understand that they don't want to blur all their pictures. However, if I follow the manufacturer of the best-selling British computer, with a reach of nearly 30k people, I don't necessarily expect to see this. 🤷

@axwax @u0421793 @Raspberry_Pi just a small +1 to this. I'd always quietly appreciated the "CW food (meat)" or "CW food (non-veg)" pattern that was very common, at least until recent months. Photos of meat don't bother me deeply but I know they bother some folks much more than me, all the more reason to appreciate it. Also, agree that you wouldn't generally expect a computer manufacturer's brand account to post about sausages. Of course they can do that if they want - but doing either of the things you suggested, to follow a pretty common long-standing fediverse norm, doesn't seem like such an imposition?

@Raspberry_PiIt is common etiquette on mastodon to put *any* food photo behind a sensitive warning. Even more so when it's meat. Out of respect for anyone dealing with food issues. The toot doesn't require a CW although that's appreciated but it's best to set the photo as sensitive. @axwax is spot on with their request.
