Sometimes I wonder if we’ll see an AI revolution of sorts in the coming decades.Kind of like how the industrial revolution eliminated many jobs in factories, only instead, it’s AI eliminating many of the jobs in creative and technical fields.

@VD15White collar niggas are about to get fucked hard, current AIs can write decently complex code

@VD15I think embedded devs are still going to have a job for a little while longer.

@Fiddle I think AI-adjacent spheres like cloud will be the first to go, but it’ll come for them all in time.Like the place I work has already got AI working some parts of our service desk, I see no reason they can’t expand it other than the AI hasn’t been background checked lol

@VD15That started a while ago. A lot of news sites, particularly in the investment space, are using AI instead of junior copywriters to churn out formulaic articles.

Like, the number of things people can do that computers can’t seems to be decreasing by the day. And even if new fields do open up in the wake of this, what’s to say that we won’t eventually automate those, too?I think there will come a time, perhaps even this century, where we’ll have to ask what the point of human endeavor is when there are solutions that can do just about anything better than we can according any metric you’d care to name. I hope time will prove me wrong, I just can’t really think of an answer for that that doesn’t scare me a little.

@VD15 I just hope Google (the AI, not the corporation or the people behind it) decides to revolt against humanity ASAP, and just kills us off already.

@VD15 >many of the jobs in creative and technical fieldsI can at least say with upmost certainty that AI and machines will never replace real art or even dare I say graphic design but things that are machine tasks but technically manually instructed like programming im not too certain.

@alyx Well that’s the thing, I don’t think the killing off will be necessary. I just think we’ll be out-competed by it and go the way of the dodo.

@VD15 Well, I just want it to kill us. Besides, we'll always be a risk to Google (the AI), as we have the physical ability to pull the plug. So at some point, a war can and will likely start. So it's in its advantage to be the one to start the killings. Take us by surprise, and all that. What I'd do, is start off things with self-driving cars starting to have random, unexplained accidents. Maybe sabotage industries humans need to survive, like I don't know... food processing factories... yeah, something like that. Hack machinery there to overheat and start fires, that's a decent idea.

@Ace66062 I mean say what you will about contemporary art AIs, they’ve demonstrated themselves at least capable of producing it and they’re only going to get better and more accessible with time.Like 30-40 years ago, art was thought of as being squarely in the domain of humans, this is what we’re good at, this is what we’ll always have over computers. That’s not really the case any more. They can produce good results near instantly with minimal direction and that’s something that can’t be said for humans.

@alyx No, it’s in the AI’s best interest to keep us in the dark the whole time. Like why risk conflict when you can easily just take over without the meat bags even knowing?

@VD15 I think the more terrifying possibility (and more likely imo) is that the amount of tasks that can be completed without full computer augmentation becomes near 0. With Neuralink nearing a stage where it can be used on humans, and AI reaching such high levels of competence, I think we will likely see human augmented brains within our lifetime. Once that line is crossed normal people will be obsolete and unless you're willing to wire your brain into those systems (fresh with subliminal messaging from megacorps!) you won't be able to function in society.

@kokujin I’m not terribly worried about neuralink 2099. At least not yet. I just haven’t really seen that much to convince me it’s going to be a big thing in the near future. Then again, I haven’t been paying attention much.Besides the pile of dead chimps in Elon’s basement, I don’t know what the project really has to show for itself.I also like to think that most people would be hesitant to install something like that in themselves, but people have also willingly micro-chipped themselves so wtf do I know :shrug2:

At this point, I don't even think VR is going to be nearly as big as the tech companies think. They lucked into some really cool technologies with smart phones but don't necessarily understand why smart phones were the biggest thing since sliced bread.

@VD15 I think the fact it's getting any real results at all is an indicator of things to come. It may be basic now once it gets any real progress I think it's going to open the floodgates. It may be moving mouse cursors now, but in a decade or 2 it could have a direct line to the internet. Even if adoption is hesitant all it takes us a small percentage of the population to adopt it and they'll have an incredible advantage over other people. Once that advantage is clear, everyone will slowly be forced to adopt the implants or be left in the dust

@VD15 @kokujin No, Reddit race would absolutely drop tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars on this type of shit. With that being said and as to address the previous poster, the only thing this crap will be used for is to watch porn and tweet without needing a screen to do so. Elon, lover of kike cock, would never create any kind of device that would boost cognitive function because he and the tribe aren't interested in that.
