From researcher @zephoria - "I don’t have access to the Twitter social graph these days, but I’d bet my bottom dollar that it would indicate whether or not the site was on a trajectory towards collapse. We are certainly seeing entire sub-networks flock to Mastodon... [but] you can lose whole segments and not lose a site. However, if those departing are creating Swiss cheese into the network graph, then I would worry."#TwitterMigration https://zephoria.medium.com/what-if-failure-is-the-plan-2f219ea1cd62

@tchambers @zephoria A #Twitter aligned with the far right is already alienating the mainstream. That implies it is also losing reach - the same reach that propelled the takeover to begin with. The Truth network still stands, but it is a minority platform, which is why its followers continued to lust for Twitter's reach. Does that mean #Twitter will fail? Not necessarily. But it could be on its way to irrelevance (to the majority, which typically is the yardstick)

@AAKL @tchambers This is a bit messy. Even before Musk's takeover, the reach of Twitter was not mainstream. They struggled with advertising because it was a wide collection of niche communities around the world. In the US, the presence of journalists made it *appear* extremely important. So one big question is whether journalists will actually leave and stop reporting on it? That'll affect perception.

@zephoria @AAKL @tchambers one of the advantages, too, of Twitter was I think the way it worked (for better or for worse) made journalists and their stories easier to discover. I know many journalists are here on the Fediverse now. But discovering them is taking real work.

@magnus919 Maybe you know already this list, but if not, it can be useful. Anyway difficult to find journalists in other language than Englishhttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13No4yxY-oFrN8PigC2jBWXreFCHWwVRTftwP6HcREtA/edit?usp=sharing@zephoria @AAKL @tchambers

@zephoria @AAKL @tchambers I do miss the Lists feature. I understand it’s easily weaponized but it’s also incredibly valuable for discovering people to follow.
