Can Apple please replace macOS’s rsync with pico. The rsync in macOS is from 2006 and is old enough to drive.

@zhuowei rsync in macOS is closer in time to the release of the Jurassic Park movie than we are to rsync in macOS

@zhuowei rsync is extremely reliable. I use it a few times a week and never have issues.

@mingistech The built-in `rsync` on macOS predates the `-s` flag, so files with a space in its name errored out. I was too lazy to `brew install` a newer version, so I ended up symlinking "big file.zip" to "bigfile.zip" instead, haha.(I really need to start using rsync and stop doing `echo get file | sftp machine`)

@zhuowei crazy, I always use built-in ‘rsync -vaEP’ and haven’t noticed this behavior before. now I wanna test and see if those files fail.

@zhuowei my google searching isn’t turning up a “pico“ related to file synchronization but that would be very relevant to my interests. If you could please provide more info or a link I’d be much obliged.

@zachnfine It's a joke. Apple replaced GNU Nano, the text editor, with Pico (a different text editor of which GNU Nano is a clone) and people got really upset even though the editors are similar. I'm joking that the only way to annoy these people further would be to use Pico to replace something completely different.

@zhuowei ah got it. I was at the University of Washington when Pine was the primary email client. I’ll give up on pico for sync and see if there’s an emacs-rsync-mode.

@zachnfine Searching for "emacs remote file transfer" gives https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Remote-Files.html: I'm not even mad: that's amazing.
