The next time someone asks me why I started a site covering nothing but #Chromebooks, I’ll point to this photo in a recently published post from another site as Exhibit A. I have spoken.

@kevinctofel Realky wish Google had been able to focus on Chromebooks more, I was super excited about the Pixelbook and then it went nowhere. They seem like such a great device for so many people.

@lindsaykwardell Yup, it’s disappointing to see no new Pixelbook for several years now. But it’s challenging for Google to compete on price against its hardware partners that purchase significantly more components at much better rates.I’m reviewing the Framework Chromebook right now and TBH, it’s what I’d want a modern Google Pixelbook to be. Missing a few important features but I’m very impressed by the modular design.

@kevinctofel @lindsaykwardell I think more importantly the fact that so many different manufacturers are building Chromebooks is a success for ChromeOS. Google is not known for its hardware... but there are manufacturers who can build and distribute great hardware worldwide who are now shipping Chromebooks.

@chromedevice @kevinctofel @lindsaykwardell That's a good point! Although with the #Pixel phone line gaining steam I hope they will revisit the #Pixelbook line. It seems silly not to. After all, the first Pixel was a #Chromebook.

@kellyn The rivalry between Android and ChromeOS teams within Google is a public secret. Web threatens Android's bottom line the same way it does for iOS. The more successful Pixel "phones" and Android in general are, the bigger the internal power imbalance between the two will be. Seeing the Android gaming desktop push and tablets revived, I'm expecting Android to offer the equivalent of Samsung's Dex or Motorola's Ready For desktop experience soon.@chromedevice @kevinctofel @lindsaykwardell

@ondra @kellyn @chromedevice @kevinctofel @lindsaykwardell With Apple silicon having all this praise, is there really any reason to not unify Android and ChromeOS and just make an Android Desktop/Workstation flavor? I can't imagine manufacturers like Samsung would have any issues building ARM laptops, they're already branding their Chromebooks as "Galaxy" devices as it is.

@berkough @kellyn @chromedevice @kevinctofel @lindsaykwardell Oh no, not again the whole Android/ChromeOS merger debate. :) The ubiquitous calls for it brought us the current "Play Store" VM on top of ChromeOS 💩show.ChromeOS would be a much better foundation for the unification. To name a few reasons: Timely updates directly from Google, Android apps struggle even on tablets, let alone desktops, bloatware and OEM customizations, HW support is a couple years at best, not to mention security...

@berkough @kellyn @chromedevice @kevinctofel @lindsaykwardell But of course this would be better for users, not for Google's bottomline. So it will never happen unless an antitrust court breaks up Google and Android and Chrome end up in different companies and start competing.
