In the US, you can order 1 hour delivery from #Amazon and have the package in your hand an hour later. Meanwhile, in #Norway, most sites tell me I can order now and receive the item - at the earliest - in five days to collect from my local post office. π΅βπ« If I want to buy someone a birthday gift for Tuesday evening (and I do), itβs more reliable to go to the store and find it myself than to order online.Iβm not saying I want US-levels of service - but the choice of Next Day would be nice.

@matt the problem is lack of transparency. Sometimes I order and the package is shipped with Oda and I have it the next day, and other times it takes them three days to even send it and PostNord decides to take another five days to deliver.

@matt In the US you can really only get things next day, and that's only if it's in the distribution center closest to you. Also you do have to pay extra, so...

@matt This is only if you live in a few select large cities. Otherwise, you can get it at best next day if there's a distribution center within UPS, FedEx, or the postal service's 1 day range. If not, you pay dearly for your impatience. In most cases it takes no longer than 3 days to ship across the continent -- with exceptions especially since covid.

@matt Fun fact, goods purchased in Norwegian stores gives you much stronger consumer rights than mail-orders or online purchases, even from the same store! I think this even goes for "Buy online, pick up at store" lol2 or 5 years mandated government full replacement warranty against practically everything beyond user error... I've never heard of anything like it anywhere else. It's pretty sweet.Ask for a gift recipe that doesn't show the price, and the warranty follows the gift. π

@athair_birb Iβd say no. And the only thing I have to compare it to is the standards of Royal Mail UK

@matt that's one of the main things I miss about the UK. I had amazon prime so I always got packages next day for free delivered to my house (or work). Here if I get a package after 2-3 days I'm like 'wow, that was fast' πOn average it takes a week. Even the mail takes 1-2 weeks π€¦ββοΈ

@matt I guess the Porterbuddy powered sites are the only thing coming close to this. At best you can order before noon and have it delivered the same night.
