When viewing a message, you don't always see all replies because your instance is not aware of them.Would you like a feature that allows to display all public replies and let you interact? #Fedilab

@apps Yes, but would love details on implementation (how the instance-unknown replies are found, etc.).

@janThe idea is first to fetch the message Id on the remote instance (ie: where the message was published and then fetch the context). Both actions don't need a token.

@janThat's already how we do when visiting publicity profiles and see all messages.

@kescherThat's where we reach the limit with public messages and won't make it as a default behaviour. But blocked people will not be able to interact though.

@dysfunWith api calls. Nothing is federated and nothing will be during an interaction if the end user blocked the account making the action. People remain safe. @kescher

@echedeylrYou are going too far. It's only to display public messages through api calls. The app already do that when visiting a profile, you can see all public messages. @dysfun @kescher

@apps I want a client that understands the distributed nature of the fediverse and then un-distributes it for me to view.

@apps @jan There is always the chance that the originating server is offline. I think it should fall back to displaying what your local server knows about.

@apps Can you explain more about why my instance might not be aware of them? And how it is that you plan to work around that limitation from the client side?

@aka_quant_noir @apps Oooh! Oooh! Maybe show the time of the boost in addition to the time of the original post. It can be confusing to see posts with out-of-order timestamps.

@apps I donāt know; what would the side effects be? For me, my instance admin, the other people on my instance, the people whose replies I wouldnāt otherwise see?

@apps yes but only if that feature respects any wholesale blocks imposed by the OP's instance. Otherwise instance blocking means nothing.

@apps @smn I see an answer there for a work around but not to the question of what is causing this. If thereās a possibility that we cannot see messages on remote servers because of an instance-wide decision policy for the local instance, or such a decision by a remote instance, then it should be respected.

@apps I end up using the "Open in Browser"-feature quite frequently to check other replies. If I then want to interact with a comment, I have to copy its URL and paste it into the Message-search in Fedilab. So, yeah, would very much appreciate this feature...

@appsIt would be even cooler to fetch some (like the last 15) posts from an new discovered profile so they don't seem to be empty. But tbh I'd wish that would be a server feature.
