@dommymommy I questioned the material and didn't just blindly believe everything I was told by our "history" teacher (who said history didn't repeat nor rhyme), i.e. I was a terrible student.

@dommymommy @RustyCrab I had one bad semester (mostly personal, not academic, but I did have an incomplete class) and suddenly there was no more money for college, and I was told I had no chance of getting into graduate school at my college eitherand that's when I learned if you're not a member of a protected class, you don't get retries

@dommymommy Sort of? I put basically no effort into high school and managed to get decent grades, then went to an academically intense college and got royally fucked. That said though when I'm really into a subject I will spend every waking moment learning more about it until I either run out of material or lose steam and get bored. My CS professors in uni were confused by the fact that I usually knew a lot about the subject in class but scored very poorly on most graded assignments except practical projects.

I've never been a good student, but I've occassionally done good in classes. At least I think I'm a bit more honest with my work than others, all things considered.

@dommymommy I wasn't, I was always under average, repeated 2 times, once in elementary, once in middle school, I was also supposed to redo the last year of kindergarten due to my language difference but it apparently was legal.For some reason I worked in my last year of middle school and went from an average of 5~8/20 score on tests to 16~20/20. Teachers were surprised. Tried culinary school after that, didn't finish. I couldn't go to college due to not being eligible for a scholarship and fam couldn't pay.

@dommymommy in highschool and below - no. In college and above - yes.I ended up liking the open, self-directed nature of work given to me in college. Also, I had some experience by then to understand why I needed to learn these things, instead of just being told simply that I *had* to learn them. And maybe also I enjoyed it more because there were more opportunities to direct my learning towards things that felt important to my future.

@dommymommy no. I went to the uni drunk or got drunk while being there. Sometimes with my teachers. I dated my classmate and she did my math assignments for sex. I was expelled once and then quit on my own two or three more times. I blackmailed teachers to get good grades for myself and my entire class. I got on a short leg with the dean after I caught him high on weed, and then while hanging out he basically put good scores into the exam sheets for me because “those subjects are boring and fuck them anyway”. I hacked into the supposedly certified computer lab and printed the word “PENIS” 100000 times (they ran out of paper earlier). I dressed so bizarre, the uni at some point publicly discussed enforcing a dress code after some visiting government officials saw me and the uni almost failed to get grant money. That’s just off the top of my head.

@dommymommy I was, when still in pre-college. I got good grades, got into favorite school and that led me into favorite university in the country as well.When I finally went to it, my mental illness hit hard. I can't handle the overwhelming number of fellow people that I had to underwent a therapy. I don't know why, but since then my grades kept falling and it led me to eventually resigned and moved into a (below-) mediocre university.

@dommymommy i was a good student for the classes i actually enjoyed. i was always well behaved, but if i didn't like something or find any use in it, i didn't really care. between everything else going on in my life i only had so much energy to devote to crap i didn't give a shit about.senior year in HS was awesome because i just took web development, two writing classes, three of the same exact music composition class (i had it two periods in a row one day and one period the next day), and i cleaned up a couple credits i had failed but it wasn't a huge issue. the required gym class i had to take i didn't have to do anything in because i had seizures super bad back then, basically just sat around and talked to girls who didn't want to do anything either xD
