So apparently convincing some Brits that having access to real electricity in a bathroom is perfectly fine is impossible.

@TechConnectify well today I learned “shavers only” sockets exist and are incredibly silly. not once has it occurred to me that other places didn’t have outlets in the bathroom. They’re all GFCI! Who cares?? Where’s the problem???? :ng_aoba_confused:

@chase You should see the argument I've been having. There are brits who are aghast at the notion we can have power in a bathroom and find using a hair dryer in the bedroom to be a completely ordinary and normal thing.

@TechConnectify Seriously, we figured out how to do this safely in the 1980's.

@Sifuri_Ibex Earlier than that! We first required GFCI protection in bathrooms in 1971

@TechConnectify And honestly, European electrical systems have some cool safety features, but the North American standard is...really just fine.People act like our outlets are death traps.

@Sifuri_Ibex I mean they'd have killed quite a few more people if we had 240V phase-to-ground but our weak zippy zappy does let us get away with more shenanigans.

@jeder @TechConnectify mine has one GFCI in the same box as the light switch next to the sink. it’s as far from the tub/shower as possible. even with there being water from the sink close by I have never tripped one in my life without hitting the test button
