@smcn @ink8 the reason i ask for sources, at least, is to find somewhere to start researching something new because aimlessly searching online could point me to entirely unrelated stuff, and that puts me in a more laborious spot than just verifying sources given to mesome people know how to critically assess sources.

@smcn none of them federated here but i'm reading the thread on fosstodon and... they always do that, find fuel out of everything they could possibly manipulate. that's all they do online, search for stuff to reply to like that. i personally don't believe in withholding useful information even despite those people, because i want to make it easier for "everyone else" to make good use of that informationi know it isnt the widest-held belief, same problem happens in infosec communities where people are split on "full open disclosure" vs "responsible" disclosure for newly-found vulnerabilities. i feel like all the ill-intent hackers already have enough resources to find this information independently so i dont see the utility in pretending there isnt something wrong with a piece of software
