@morngrar Take a fully functional User Interface, fuck it up, add crappy things, make the UI more shittier, Then you have gitlab, or shitlab as I usually calls it

@selea I thought atlassian's "solution" to IT project management and VCS was a tangled mess of random, inconsistent hardly working tools. Then I used gitlab for a while and found that it's possible to do even worse. Only more consistent.

@joacim @seleaI hated it the first time I set it up because it is ruby and if you don't have a redis cache it is slower than snail with cramps on a freshly salted snowy road

@selea @morngrar If you switch to mostly CLI, you don't need to worry about the UI.But I like that there's a download button - new users get confused about how to download a file if there's no download button.

@selea Their UX used to be so much better. They had tabs on top with issues/mr/etc (like GitLab). They then moved to the sidebar which is terrible. The icons are meaningless. Relevant information is always hidden somewhere. It's like they're competing with GH on who can mess up their UI the most.

It was cool at the beginning. But they are working hard to compete also in inconsistency.

@selea It can be worse than that. Once the whole project would not load, because of the internal server error that was caused by incorrect user permissions for one user. One of those cases that shows heavy coupling between things in the code, which shouldn't exist
