       Let me start this backwards, so there's no mistaking the import of this contribution to the on-going discussion about Social Media toxicity -  the Internet is toxic, and we need to work hard and focus intentionally and passionately to make it less soIt is myc considered opinion, though, that we cannot begin to honestly this task unless and until we correct the impression that this is a new phenomenon. It is not. The Internet (and, by extension, the Social Media space) has never been non-toxic.

       When we let the phrase "Today's Social Media is becoming toxic" go unchallenged, we lend it the veneer of truth when, in fact, it can be argued today's (public) internet is equally as toxic as it's ever been, if not less so if you consider the emergence of online community policing and moderation, along with credible fact checkers.        would be forgiven if you couldn't fathom the possibility that something so awesome could have always this toxic from the beginning.The internet (the public part of it) has always been a jungle. The unmoderated verbal fisticuffs on IRCs, Newsgroups, Mailing Lists, etc, were as equally toxic as we see them today. This part has always been for all-comers. The intentional permissiveness of the public Internet is, in my opinion, the core Subject to be reviewed and addressed.
