Do you ever use the "Explore" section here to see popular posts/links/etc from around the Fediverse?

One of the most time-consuming moderation tasks is approving every trending hashtag, post and link. I want to understand more about if/how people are using this part of the instance.

@james I'd gladly forego it if it saves you work.

@timriley I'd rather work on it, if it provides value đ

@james I expect this varies by instance, but for me the primary value of ruby.social is the local timeline. I canât even imagine a convincing reason to look at the âExploreâ section.

@tom the reason might be "here's a summarised view of popular hashtags, posts and links from everywhere". It does contain interesting stuff, both from the local instance (a popular post you might've missed), plus other stuff from beyond that's not wholly irrelevant. (e.g. from today: popular client Metatext needs a new maintainer; Tapbots confirm they are working on a client; an interesting demonstration of "tensegrity"; some posts from hachyderm; etc)

@james Okay, that makes sense. I suppose Iâm currently using ruby.social as the place I go to read stuff from the Ruby community specifically, rather than a full-bore Twitter replacement for finding out Whatâs Happening, but Iâm probably in the minority.

@tom if I go to Twitter to find out What's Happening now, all I see are a dwindling collection of brands, and then Elon's Tweets and the Reaction to Elon's Tweets đ

@james I regularly check the Explore feed. I don't want to be limited to just Ruby in my life. That said, I don't know that I would expect the Explore feed to be moderated.

@james Not sure how to answer this because "Explore" isn't a phrase used by either Android app from what I can see. Is that just the Federated timeline? If so, yes I use it maybe every other day.

@Fryguy if the android app is like the official iOS app, youâll find the equivalent content on the search page under âpostsâ, âhashtagsâ and ânewsâ

@james I see. Both Tusky and the official app have this under Search đ. However, in Tusky, nothing shows until you enter a search, whereas on the official app it shows things before you enter a search. I switched to Tusky some time ago, but looks like I'll be switching back.

@james can I change my vote to no. I thought you meant the fediverse tab. I use tusky and as far as I can tell there's no explore tab in this app.

@james, your poll made me look at the âExploreâ tab. I thought it would be a firehouse of toots from all over the fediverse. It was much more informative than I expected. I am not confident that my iOS client has access to that feature, though.

@purinkle toot! certainly doesn't; Metatext will show you the trending hashtags
